Thank you to everyone who joined us for our very first #GulfCoastHUG meetup. It was wonderful to see some familiar faces and meet lots of new ones!
SPROUT Content Co-founder Debbie Williams kicked the evening off with an explanation of what a HUG is, and what participants can expect at these gatherings of local marketers.
She turned it over to SPROUT Content Co-founder Dechay Watts who presented The Marketing Mindshift, why marketers need to move from traditional, old-school methods to inbound marketing.
Dechay discussed how the old marketing playbook is broken and that because people have changed how they consume information and make buying decisions, marketers must keep up by moving to inbound methodology.
"Screw sexy. Be helpful." ~ Dan Moyle
Today's marketers are helping to provide solutions to problems, which is why a consumer would seek out and choose your company's goods and services. Marketers must use online tactics such as blogging and social media to capture leads and then nuture those leads to turn them into customers.
We discussed several tools that help make the switch to inbound marketing, including HubSpot.
We loved that everyone in our group contributed to the discussion and asked lots of questions! There seemed to be an interest in learning more about buyer personas, so we're considering that topic for a future presentation. Our first meetup participants will receive an email next week asking for feedback on future discussion topics. We hope to grow our group, so please feel free to invite anyone who may have an interest in marketing to join us for the next meeting and participate in the conversations on social media.
Our next HUG is set for Wednesday, August 26 from 5:30pm-7pm at the West Florida Library's Main Branch again. More details to come on that soon, but mark your calendars now!
