We use words to inspire our customers and prospects to take action with our companies. Copywriting is part of every marketer's job, and we need to choose our words carefully. But with a little creativity and a lot of testing, you can implement some new ideas with proven results.
That's just some of what we learned from Scott Tousley, Senior Growth Marketing Manager at HubSpot at last week's #GulfCoastHUG meetup.
Scott shared 7 tactics that each one of us can apply to our marketing communications. He provided examples of what to do and what not to do and challenged us to think outside of the box. We learned about the "80/20 Copywriting Triangle" which includes three points:
- Listen to your Audience
- Write down their Words
- Use their words in Marketing
We learned to always stress the benefits in our marketing copy and to leave the jargon (or as SPROUT Content likes to call it, "tech-lish") out completely.
Scott managed to make it through over 180 slides in his presentation and covered a ton of ground, including why we should all strive to be the purple cow in the field.
If you need a refresher, here's a link to Scott's presentation.
It was so great to welcome Scott from San Diego and show him some Southern hospitality here in Northwest Florida. Thank you for joining us!
We will soon begin the planning process for our #GulfCoastHUG meetups in 2017, so I encourage you to fill out the feedback form so we can create HUGs that benefit your career. Please feel free to share this post with anyone interested in digital marketing or copywriting.
